comics, art stuff, mind fluff.

One Hundred Days Project Day Twenty Seven 27/12/2009
Finally fought the war with the scanner and won. Lots of updates from my time back at my parents/the festive period. Hope you've all had a lovely time...

One Hundred Days Project Day Twenty One 21/12/2009
Bit of a glut of One Hundred Days sketchbooking due to it being the weekend, my camera being unpredictable and only deciding to work now, and being on leave from work so no scanner. I'm about to go to stay with my parents over Christmas as well, so that will make getting pictures uploaded even more difficult. I should ask for a scanner for Christmas.
Anyhow, today's effort is something I said I'd do ages ago and now I have. I got a job in London in 2008 and had two weeks to find somewhere to live and move up from Brighton. Moved in with someone who seemed ok, and turned out to be a nightmare, as detailed below...this was probably the best thing that ever happened when I lived in that house. Moved out after four months...

One Hundred Days Project Day Nineteen 19/12/2009
Grumpy Saturday night in. It would be fair to say that this winter has made me feel more grumpy, lonely and dissatisfied than any other one I can remember. Cannot wait for the new year/better weather. I keep thinking I want to move out of London, but then I remember how nice it can be in the summer.

One Hundred Days Project Day Seventeen 17/12/2009
Day 17, another done at work special. The evils of eggnog. My housemate finally finished drinking the eggnog last night, by which point it had grown more potent, and featured bits of egg that had solidified and were floating in the mixture. Tasty.
One Hundred Days Project Day Sixteen 16/12/2009
Since I started my new job in September, I have steadily been working the 'scruffy' into my daily outfit. So far I am not up to the scruffbag standards I managed to get away with in my old library job, but I'm getting there...anyway I had to take part in an IMPORTANT MEETING yesterday so I had to reel out the smart shoes, and I spent most of the day looking at my feet as if they didn't belong to me as a result.

One Hundred Days Project Day Fifteen 15/12/2009
Another cheap paper cut and stick job. I had yet another day without the sketchbook- my EVER CONSIDERATE neighbours and the strange hours they keep meant I had to take Tuesday off of work as emergency leave, as I actually had NO SLEEP AT ALL that night. Bunch of bastards. Sketchbook and I have been reunited now though! Yes!

thoughts on the one hundred days project so far
So I have no sketchbook entry to post tonight, not because it's not done, but because I have no scanner here at home, and I can't even give you a crappy photo because my camera has given up the ghost. Rubbish. There will be scans tomorrow.
It's nearly two weeks in to the project, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Initially my aim was a pretty vague 'do something in my sketchbook every day' but it's kind of morphed into being a daily journal kind of thing with odd intrusions from historical figures! I'm ok with this. Before I started the project my sketchbook had been being a problematic beast to me- everything I tried to draw in it didn't work, but this has given me a focus and it's become kind of rewarding in the process- it's nice to look back at lots of solid pages of drawing and writing. It's also stopped feeling like such a daunting task, as it's become something that I am used to doing every day and actually really look forward to.
I think that's enough musing for now- for any other fellow Hundred day project people reading this- keep up the good work- following what other people have been doing is really good for inspiration not to mention really interesting.

One Hundred Days Project Day Twelve 12/12/2009
I'm about to head off to the lovely town of Watford to see my friend Allard's Dad's band, Sad Lovers and Giants, play a gig tonight. This sketchbook page kind of explains why...

One Hundred Days Project Day Nine 09/12/2009
Two items in one day! I've just spent the last hour covertly doing this at work as I'm going out with old work friends tonight and if I tried to do anything in the pub after some cider it would probably consist solely of illegible profanity laden scribble that I would look at the next day with SHAME. Today's sketchbook page is based around me making a twat of myself at lunchtime. Enjoy!

Other One Hundred Days Projects that I like...
Obviously, lots of people are taking part in the One Hundred Days project. The website functions as a good hub to find out about what everyone is doing, and this blog was featured on the daily roundup a couple of days ago, but I thought I'd do a post of my own picking out the stuff other people are doing that I'm following:
Starting with Andrew, a friend from Brighton, and his excellent Haiku blog. He's written about a painting of a giant tooth I recently finished, but my favourite one is probably #6- It's like the Blur video in a haiku format. Another blog that centres around Haikus lives here. One Hundred Mythical Creatures in Haiku and does what it says on the tin. Really like the drawings that go with each entry.
I wanted to do the Hundred Days project because I felt like I was wasting my creativity a lot of the time, and it seemed like a good way to become more productive in that respect. I think this a common theme that runs through a lot of peoples projects, even though it is manifested in very different ways. Emma has made a Richard Brautigan jumper! How good is that?! I want! and I am enjoying following Sophie's daily photoblog.
Obviously I'm very drawn to art/art related projects, and Howard's enaging and excellently written blog Untitled #23 is a really interesting insight into the art he likes and why. My lame sketchbook challenge pales in comparison to Tom Humberstone's pledge to draw a comic every day for the hundred days- they all look great so far. In the last day I've also picked up on this blog, and the drawings make me jealous in the best possible way- lovely stuff.
So so far that's a round up of the projects that have caught my eye. Any more recommendations?
